Basic Service

A proofreading service. For students, researchers and academics. For confident writers looking for an editor to spot, correct and comment on basic errors.

This is our cheapest option.

We check spelling, punctuation and grammar. We fix all typing mistakes.

We also check:

  • text formatting
  • line spacing
  • capitalisation
  • hyphenation
  • abbreviations
  • word repetition
  • the consistent use of font
  • and any other small errors you may have missed.

Referencing optional extra. Just ask.

Are you a confident writer who only needs a 'second set of eyes' to look over your document for superficial errors? Then our Basic Service may be for you.

We suggest you use our Heavy Edit service if you have English as a second or additional language and you struggle to be understood in English.

Or, if you're looking to improve your writing and make it shiny and glossy, take a look at our Premium service.

Whatever option you choose, we read every word of your document, line-by-line, end-to-end. We make corrections and suggestions using track changes and comments.

We use US or UK/AUS spelling. Just tell us what you need.

Here's what we do for you

The best way for you to understand how great our editors are is for you to see the type of comments we make.

We have also checked:
line spacing

word repetition
and other small errors of typography.

We have checked word choice and flow to improve readability and clarity.

We have focused on language at the sentence level to pick up errors of phrasing.

In this example, we also illustrate structural editing at paragraph level to suggest improvements to cohesion and logic that the writer may have missed.

Meet Dr Kathryn Edgeworth, the CEO behind little big editing

“I know a lot about writing and that’s one of the reasons I started this venture. I’m working on making writing easier, with more accessible, quality feedback for people of all abilities.

My work is about embracing writing and helping people make their work shine. It’s about thinking differently about how words are organised and unpacking the mystery around this.

With my own PhD, I wanted an editor to care about my thesis as if it were their own. I can be trusted to be that someone for you.”

Kathryn Edgeworth is a writer, editor, mentor and speaker, based out of Melbourne and South West Victoria, Australia. She has published internationally on equity and diversity and is on a mission to make an impact. She also runs the company Little Big Editing, mentors higher education students in research, and teaches young people how to be better readers, writers and critical thinkers.
